Welcome to the Powerhouse Blog

My name is James Lawson, son of the Lead Pastor Vivian Ariyo-Lawson, I am a former Youth Leader and current member of the Sunday School ministry. I’m going to share my early experience with church and how Christ Ambassadors Powerhouse Ministry changed my life.

I’ve been in the church my entire life. My mom is a devout Christian and has been serving since she was a teenager. She brought my brother and me to church every chance she got, eventually it felt like she was dragging us to church.

I didn’t have a choice in how to believe in God. I felt like for the majority of my life I was told how to believe in the Word of God and I could not question it. Then it all changed when my mother started Christ Ambassadors Powerhouse Ministry in 2014.

At the time, I was a university student completely removed from my faith. I hadn’t attended church in 3 years, and at this point, I was not interested in getting involved in any church. Then, I met the members of my mom’s church. Young, vibrant, diverse, inquisitive and eager to learn more about the Bible. It was refreshing to see millennials that were inspired to get connected to God, and there was also an older generation ready to re-engage with their faith.

This completely changed my perspective on church. Here I was, thinking the church was outdated, the church was irrelevant, the church was not necessary, but I was WRONG.

I learned that the church is what you make it, the church is relevant when it provides growth, the church is a safe community. Christ Ambassadors Church was a safe place to share your skepticism, share your pain, question old ideology, and most importantly grow your faith with God.

That’s where it all began for me; my reconnection with God. I had a choice in how to believe in God, I was more engaged in learning the Holy Bible, and I started getting involved. First as a youth leader, then preaching and joining the Sunday School ministry, and now I sit on the Board of Directors.

God has inspired me to help in the growth of his ministry and church. If you are looking for a safe place to practice your faith, grow in the Spirit, and begin a true relationship with Jesus Christ, look no further.
